Review: Sugar

I found a post on the daily announcement page about sugar. I looked it up on google and read more information on it and found the information very interesting. Languages has always interested me and that is why I chose the specific post. The Arabic word sukkar sounds very much like the Afrikaans word suiker. My father-in-law grew up during the time when sugar was rationed. Can you imagine how that must feel like!

Review: Shining Light

I read through the past week's assignments and notices and found the post about make your weird light shine bright so the other weirdos know where to find you. This is so true, because each person is different and unique in his /her own way.

It immediately made me think of Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Review: Caught Up

I read through this week's class assignments and reminders and I am caught up with everything thus far. I did remember to change my OU password, so there is no need for me to stress about it :) One post that caught my eye was the proofreading humor - it is so true! Sometimes I will read my Facebook status update a few times to make sure that I do not have any grammatical errors, but when it comes to professional writing, I often miss my spelling mistakes. LOL!

I think this week went by pretty fast and I was able to have most (if not all) of the extra credit opportunities completed by Thursday, which is today. That makes me really happy, because now I can focus on my project assignment and get all of the required work completed by tomorrow. I am upset that I missed the grace period for week five's story post, but I can make up for it with extra credit. I do not have anything urgent to complete for next week, except my regular class homework. I am starting to be more proactive in trying to finish class work early and I love that feeling of accomplishment. It allows me to spend more time with my family and focus on other things that is not work or school related. I am, however, still having a little bit of difficulty with giving meaningful feedback to blog groups and I am working on that.

Review: Different Week

I read the reviews for the past week, in order to make sure that I am caught up with everything and that I did not miss any assignments. The History of The English Language was very interesting to me and although the chart seems to be intricate / confusing, I would like to spend more time studying it.

This week was very different for me and I feel like I moved slower with completing tasks, which is upsetting. I hope to be more focused for the upcoming week - avoiding procrastination.

Week 4 Review: Procrastination

I enjoyed the post from "Why I'm Not Getting Any Writing Done" by Rick Chillot. I read through it and found it quite funny, because I constantly think of other things that I need to do before I start with my writing process. This made me look into other procrastination jokes.

Week 3 Review: Setsubun

An important note; I need to email Laura and let her know that she please needs to manually sign my declaration for week 3 (Monday reading).

I do not always get time to read through the class announcements for each week - I only look to see if something important regarding work due is posted. Going through the past seven week's announcements was very fun. I found quite a few interesting topics that grabbed my attention, but I specifically like the February 3rd  post; "Setsubun"

Setsubun is a religious festival / holiday among the Shinto (Japanese) religion. I found a very cool video on vimeo about it. I would love to be able to experience this for myself and be a part of this rich, fun culture.

A few interesting facts that I found about the festival:
*Children and adults shout: Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uch! Which menas Oni out! Happiness in!

* "Oni! refers to ugly, mean "ogre-like" creatures who brings bad luck.

* The beans are sold in chip bags, known as "happiness beans" and are thrown to chase away any bad spirits.

Review: Week 2, Dig The Well- Be Prepared

Dig The Well- Be Prepared

The image and proverb "Dig A Well Before You Are Thirsty" stood out to me, so I looked more into it. This can be applied to many aspects of my personal life -whether it is my career, marriage or school. To me it means to prepare and be prepared for anything that may come my way. On a more deeper level (such as relationships)  it means that I have to use the tools that I have in order to strengthen ties. This can simply be done by spending more time with loved ones, etc and not waiting until something bad happens to do so. One never knows when the time might come for loved ones to pass away - seize every opportunity you get to spend time with them!

Review, All Things Come To An End

Reading through the week's announcement, this photo quite struck me, because often we as people wonder "why" "what if" and "if only". This is in relation to all things in life, whether it is someone passing away, relationships ending, etc. Another reason why this truck me, is because of a personal issue that my sister is currently going through and this immediately reminded me of her.
